Looking up through a broadcast tower

Field Services

Broadcast equipment operates 24/7/365. Even the most reliable hardware breaks down, and usually at the worst times. Preventative maintenance and good engineering practices go a long way in keeping your station on the air and sounding great.

Wavelength Technical Solutions can inspect, calibrate, and service broadcast facilities to help improve uptime and reduce unexpected failures.

We also clean up messy wiring and fix minor or major issues so stations are more reliable and easier to maintain. This saves broadcasters money and makes listeners and advertisers happy.

Routine scheduled maintenance visits are available for clients on the west coast, while all other services are available across the USA.

Remote Support

Most modern broadcast equipment has some form of remote connectivity. Because of this, problems can be identified and often solved without needing to dispatch an engineer to the site.

Perhaps you need to change something such as a logo on your HD Radio display or RDS slogan, or perform a software update on rack equipment. This and much more can typically be handled through our Remote Support service.

We connect to your computer or an internet-accessible PC on your network using a remote desktop application, and work to resolve the issue, complete a requested change, or upgrade a system, for a fraction of the cost of a site visit.

Project Consulting

Station power upgrades, transmitter replacements, studio improvements, and other complex technical projects require significant coordination to prevent lengthy delays and cost overruns. Whether you’re a new LPFM licensee or a broadcaster who simply doesn’t have an engineer on staff, we’re here to help.

Our engineers have been involved in scores of station builds, moves, and equipment upgrades, and can assist you in planning your project in an economical and efficient way.

From FCC applications, studio builds, combined FM systems, to tall-tower work, we partner with trusted manufacturers, suppliers, and industry experts to find you the right solution, at the right price, and get it on air as quickly as possible.

Audio PRocessing

Next to content and signal reliability, your on-air sound presence is critical to grabbing and holding an audience on a crowded radio dial.

The proper use of audio processing is an artform and must take into account many factors. You’ll never get the best station sound from a factory preset, even in the most expensive audio processors.

Our engineers have decades of experience fine-tuning audio processors from Orban, Telos, Wheatstone, StereoTool, and more. We combine data from the station’s format, target audience, local market competitors, and the PD’s desires, to craft an exceptional sound for your station.

And don’t forget about your stream! Internet audio requires more care than traditional radio due to reduced bitrates and compression.

We can help fine-tune your existing processing or assist you in purchasing, installing, and tuning an audio processor for your mics, radio stations, and internet streams, creating a beautiful signature sound for your radio products.

STUDIOS

Looking to build or upgrade your studio? Wavelength Technical Solutions can help you create the perfect environment for live broadcasting, voice tracking, recording, and editing. We love to help podcasters, too! Using the latest technologies, you may be surprised how little equipment you need to produce an incredibly professional audio product. Give us a call to discuss your specific needs.

Standardization

Most stations can benefit from standardization in the broadcast facility. This means systems are strategically designed to be scalable and operated by fewer trained staff than if there is a mish-mash of different hardware, software, wiring methodologies, and engineering practices employed. Standardization reduces operating costs and creates an environment for financially sustainable growth, improvement, and scalability.

Standardization includes using predefined designs and best practices for wiring and system layout. Implementing standardization, you might be surprised how little hardware and complex wiring you actually need to accomplish a given task. Don’t let someone sell you racks of gear when a single device is all you need! We can assist with designing, upgrading, or cleaning up your facility, and likely for less cost than expected.

With decades of experience in national network radio operations, Wavelength Technical Solutions can provide guidance and a plan to help your station(s) operate at peak efficiency, be more reliable, and be supportable with fewer technical staff.

Technical Writing & Training

Having clear and intelligible documentation for complex broadcast systems is crucial to ensuring staff can do their jobs well and minimize mistakes, which can cause unplanned outages.

Wavelength Technical Solutions provides technical writing and documentation services, assisting stations with the creation of knowledge base articles, line and systems drawings, and other instructions for how to operate and maintain equipment.

We can also help you create standard operating procedures (SOPs) and document workflows and processes to help your technical team operate more effectively and efficiently.

For staff that need or want to go deeper, we offer training, both remotely and on-premises, for broadcast systems. These classes are tailored to your specific needs, covering everything from the basics of how radio works (Radio 101) to more advanced training on HD Radio, RF systems, and air chain virtualization.

IT SUPPORT

We offer basic IT and desktop support to small broadcasters, podcasters, and audio production teams. This includes setting up new computers, troubleshooting PC and network issues, installing or updating software packages, cabling, WiFi, VPNs, routers and firewall configurations, and more.

DRONE TOWER INSPECTIONS

Coming Soon! Hiring a tower crew to simply climb up and look at an antenna can be extremely expensive. Wavelength Technical Solutions can assist by providing detailed photographs of your antenna or tower using modern drone technology, flown by an FAA-licensed UAV pilot. These types of photos and videos provide extremely valuable information to tower crews, structural engineers, and leasing staff.

Here to Help

The broadcast engineering trade is suffering from a significant shortage of talent, with few getting into the field. Finding qualified and experienced broadcast engineers is becoming very difficult, and many stations can no longer afford to have full-time engineers on staff.

Wavelength Technical Solutions is here to help you succeed. We offer competitive hourly and project rates based on your specific needs, and carry the liability insurance required by many tower owners.
